Cristal is a Belgian pilsener closely associated with the Alken-Maes brewing tradition and is commonly traced to 1928. The beer became Heineken-connected through Heineken’s control of Alken-Maes in 2008. As an archive profile, Cristal represents classic Belgian pilsener character: pale golden colour, filtered clarity, clean bottom fermentation, soft malt, and crisp bitterness. Within the archive, it preserves an important everyday Belgian lager identity alongside the stronger specialty ales more often associated with Belgian beer culture.
