EKA
EKA (Empresa Angolana de Cervejas) was founded in 1969 in Dondo, Kwanza Norte province, with its first production reaching the market on 29 January 1972. Brewed using the pure mineral waters of the Kwanza River, it was positioned as a premium quality international-standard lager in the Angolan market. Heineken held a 45% majority stake in EKA — a larger involvement than its 27% in NOCAL — making it the more significant of Heineken's two Angolan brewery stakes. The brewery in Dondo, approximately 200km southeast of Luanda, served the interior provinces of Angola. In 2003 Castel/CUCA acquired EKA alongside the NOCAL brewery, ending Heineken's direct stake. The brand continues today under Castel/CUCA ownership and remains active in Angola, described as born from the pure mineral waters of the Kwanza with an exceptional flavour and all the properties of a superior quality beer.
