Gulder
Gulder was introduced by Nigerian Breweries in 1970 as the company's second lager after Star, positioning itself as Nigeria's premium extra mature lager and the first Nigerian beer to be sold in a distinctive brown bottle. Launched under Heineken's long-standing technical partnership with Nigerian Breweries — a relationship dating back to the founding of the brewery in 1946 — Gulder was distributed nationally by 1973. The beer developed a fiercely loyal following, particularly among male consumers, reinforced by the landmark Gulder Ultimate Search reality television series. In 2014 the brand underwent a major packaging relaunch with embossed gold neck foil and a metallized body label. Heineken formally took majority control of Nigerian Breweries in 2000, cementing Gulder's place in the global portfolio.
