Harghita
Harghita is one of Romania's oldest surviving regional beer brands — established in 1972 at the Miercurea Ciuc brewery in Harghita county, two years before the brewery was formally inaugurated in 1974. Named after the Harghita mountain range that defines the landscape of the Székely Land in eastern Transylvania, it is a deeply community-rooted lager with a loyal local following. The beer entered the Heineken Romania portfolio through the 2000 Brau Union acquisition of the Miercurea Ciuc brewery, and formally became part of the Heineken group with the 2003 Brau Union acquisition. Harghita is produced exclusively for the local market in the Harghita and surrounding counties — a regional specialty that reflects the distinct cultural identity of the Romanian Székely community. Currently still brewed at the Miercurea Ciuc brewery alongside Ciuc Premium and the broader Heineken Romania range.
