Marathon

Beer Description

Marathon is a pale lager produced by Athenian Brewery S.A. in Greece — Heineken's Greek subsidiary since 1963. Athenian Brewery was established in 1963 by a group of Greek entrepreneurs and became part of the Heineken group progressively. Marathon is brewed at 5% ABV with barley malt, yeast, hops and water and was described as easy to drink with a pleasant taste. The beer was exported to Canada, France, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Israel and the USA among others. The name references the ancient Greek city of Marathon and the legendary Battle of Marathon (490 BC). Marathon has since been discontinued — BeerAdvocate lists it as inactive as of 2015. Athenian Brewery's current portfolio focuses on Amstel, Heineken, Alfa, Fischer, Nymfi and Strongbow.
