Martiner

Beer Description

Martiner is a Slovak pilsner brand first brewed in 1893 in the town of Martin, central Slovakia. Heineken acquired the Martiner brewery in 1999 as part of its Slovak expansion. In 2003 Heineken halted production at the Martin brewery due to declining beer sales and rising excise taxes, transferring Martiner production to the Hurbanovo brewery (Zlatý Bažant). The closure was controversial and sparked a consumer boycott of Heineken products in Slovakia. The brand continues to be produced at Hurbanovo and is exported to 40+ countries alongside Krušovice and Zlatopramen.
