Monteith’s Phoenix IPA
Monteith's Phoenix IPA was launched in 2018 to honour 150 years of quality brewing on New Zealand's West Coast — named after the original Phoenix Brewery established by Stewart Monteith in Reefton in 1868. Brewed with a fusion of American Simcoe, Chinook and Citra hops on a clean, crisp malt base that allows the hops to shine with a heady aroma of pine and citrus. Notes of fresh cut grass complement subtle passionfruit flavours with a touch of spice. After a successful limited keg release it became the number one craft SKU in New Zealand supermarkets. Monteith's is owned by DB Breweries, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of Heineken in 2012 following the acquisition of Asia Pacific Breweries. The Phoenix name nods directly to the brewery's origins — Greymouth's old Phoenix Brewery — connecting the modern craft range to 155 years of West Coast brewing heritage.
