Number One
Beer Description
Number One emerged in New Caledonia during the early 1970s and became one of the territory’s defining local lager brands. Brewed by Grande Brasserie de Nouvelle-Calédonie, the beer developed alongside the brewery’s expanding relationship with Heineken-linked brewing operations after the formation of GBNC in the mid-1970s. Known for its approachable tropical-climate drinkability, Number One reflects the hybrid identity of Pacific brewing culture: European lager tradition adapted for island markets. The brand became closely associated with everyday drinking culture in Nouméa and wider New Caledonia, where locally brewed pale lager occupied an important role in regional beer identity.
