Porter 39

Beer Description

Porter 39 was created in 1929 by Les Brasseries Réunies de Maubeuge et Environs. The name 39 refers to the 39kg of malt used per hectolitre — a naming convention shared with Pelforth 43 and Vilfort 40. The brand entered the Heineken France portfolio via the Pelforth acquisition in 1986–1988, and is today brewed at Mons-en-Barœul. Uniquely, Porter 39 was also brewed locally in Martinique by Brasserie Lorraine on behalf of Socara during the Heineken technical assistance period (1958–2014), as confirmed in a 2014 French competition authority ruling. At 6.9% ABV it is a full-bodied dark brown porter.
