Schwechater

Beer Description

The Schwechater brewery in Schwechat, Lower Austria was founded in 1632 making it one of the oldest breweries in Europe. It was purchased by the legendary brewer Anton Dreher senior in 1796, who introduced bottom-fermented lager beer in 1839 — an innovation that changed brewing history worldwide. The brewery passed to Brau Union Österreich AG in 1978 and became part of Heineken in 2003. Schwechater is the No.1 canned beer in Austria with 850,000–900,000 hl brewed annually. The Schwechat brewery is the can competence centre within the Heineken group. At 5% ABV Schwechater is a clean, crisp Austrian lager with 9 centuries of tradition behind it.
