Sovata

Beer Description

Sovata was a regional pale lager produced by Bere Mureș at the Ungheni brewery in Mureș county — one of the three beer brands acquired by Heineken Romania when it purchased Bere Mureș in 2008. Named after the spa town of Sovata in Mureș county, famous for its heliothermal lakes, the beer served a highly localised market in the Mureș region. Described as a smaller brand in the Bere Mureș portfolio alongside the dominant Neumarkt, it was discontinued by 2009 as Heineken rationalised the acquired brand portfolio. Its brief appearance in the Heineken archive makes it one of the most fleeting regional entries in Heineken Romania's history — acquired and retired within barely a year of the takeover.
