Stella Egypt

Beer Description

Stella is Egypt's oldest and most beloved beer brand, with a documented history stretching back to 1897 when it was first produced in Cairo. Both the Crown Brewery — in which Heineken invested in 1937 — and the Pyramid Brewery produced a beer named Stella, each based on completely different recipes. Under Heineken's ownership the Pyramid Brewery was renamed Al Ahram Brewery. In 1963 the companies were consolidated as Al Ahram Beverages Company under Nasser's nationalisation programme — and the Stella brand was unified under government ownership. After privatisation in 1997 and Heineken's reacquisition in 2002, Stella continued as the flagship. Today it remains by far the most popular beer in Egypt with 47.5 million litres sold in 2016 — equivalent to a third of Egypt's total beer consumption. Al Ahram controls 89% of Egypt's beer market. Stella is the beer that dissolves differences and brings people closer together — the real meaning of beer for all Egyptians, recognisable by its yellow label, blue star and iconic dark green bottle.
