Zipfer Urtyp
Zipfer Urtyp is the flagship lager of Brauerei Zipf in Neukirchen an der Vöckla, Upper Austria — the beer that defines the Zipfer brand identity and has carried the brewery's reputation since its founding in 1858 by Franz Schaup. At 5.4% ABV it is brewed with four distinct hop varieties, giving it a fruity, hop-forward character unusual for a mainstream Austrian pale lager. The brewery prides itself on sourcing 90% of its hops as natural hops from regional Upper Austrian suppliers. Zipfer merged with Brau Union Österreich AG in 1970 and became part of the Heineken family in 2003 when Heineken acquired Brau Union. One of Heineken's corporate commitments on acquisition was to leave brewing sites, raw materials and recipes untouched — a promise that has kept the Zipfer character authentic for over two decades of international ownership. Recognised across Austria for its distinctive brown bottle.
