Launched as a premium strong beer, Amstel Gold is brewed with a special blend of barley malts that give it a deeper, dark golden-yellow color and a full-bodied, slightly sweet taste. While it served as the namesake for the Netherlands' premier cycling classic for decades, its production in its home market shifted in the mid-2010s to focus on global variants like Amstel Oro.
