Opened in 1975, the Zoeterwoude brewery represents the modern industrial heart of Heineken N.V.. Built to replace older urban production sites, it was designed from the outset as a large-scale, highly efficient brewing facility and quickly became the largest brewery in Europe.

Strategically located in the Netherlands, the site plays a central role within Heineken’s global network. It is not only a major production and export hub—shipping millions of hectolitres annually—but also a key centre for quality control. The brewery houses central laboratories and is responsible for cultivating Heineken’s proprietary A-yeast, ensuring consistency of flavour across breweries worldwide.

Over time, Zoeterwoude has evolved into one of the company’s most advanced production sites, combining industrial scale with continuous technological innovation. Modernisation efforts focus on efficiency, resilience, and long-term sustainability, reflecting Heineken’s broader ambition to future-proof its core breweries.

Today, the brewery stands as a flagship production site—both a backbone of Heineken’s global supply chain and a symbol of its transition toward large-scale, sustainable brewing.
