Heineken Oud Bruin

Beer Description

"The Liquid Bridge Across Centuries"
"Heineken Oud Bruin is the only beer in the portfolio that carries the direct DNA of the 16th-century De Hooiberg (The Haystack) brewery into the modern era. While the world moved toward pale, bitter pilsners, this dark nectar remained a constant—a 'Liquid Bread' that has sustained the Dutch people through centuries of change.
The Process:
Originally born as a top-fermented, rustic brown ale in the heavy copper kettles of Amsterdam's city center, the beer underwent a radical 'scientific' rebirth in 1873. It was one of the first in the world to be successfully converted to bottom-fermentation (Lage Gisting), utilizing the revolutionary Heineken A-Yeast. To achieve its deep ruby-ebon glow and its signature 'Stropige' (syrupy) texture, the brewers employ a precise caramelization of malts, ensuring a heavy residual sweetness that acts as a time capsule for the flavors of the 1800s. It is not aged in wood, but rather 'matured in sweetness,' a process that preserves the bready, dark-fruit notes that Gerard Adriaan Heineken first tasted on the day he bought the brewery in 1864."
