Harar Beer

Beer Description

Harar Beer is the flagship pale lager of Harar Brewery, brewed in the Harari Region of eastern Ethiopia since the brewery's founding in 1984. The brewery uses water from the Genela spring situated on the premises, supplemented by water from Finkile 33 km away. The beer is brewed with two distinct hop varieties, giving it a pronounced hoppy character uncommon among Ethiopian lagers. Harar Brewery was state-owned until Heineken acquired it in 2011 for USD 78 million. The brand reflects the bold, fun-loving and humorous spirit of Harar's people. The brewery has won the Ethiopian Quality Award four times (2009, 2012, 2014, 2017). Harar Beer is brewed with barley from the Arsi region and European hops.
