  • Originally Harar Brewery Share Company under state ownership (1984–2011). Renamed under Heineken Ethiopia Share Company (HBSC) from 2011.

Harar Brewery was established in 1984 by the Derg regime in the historic walled city of Harar in the Harari Region, 500 km from Addis Ababa. State-owned until acquisition by Heineken in August 2011 for USD 78 million as part of a USD 163 million deal that also included Bedele Brewery. Uses spring water from the Genela spring on its premises, supplemented by water pumped from Finkile 33 km away. Four-time winner of the Ethiopian Quality Award (2009, 2012, 2014, 2017). Capacity of 500,000 hl per year, over 200 employees. Fully owned by Heineken Ethiopia Share Company (HBSC).
