H.B.M. Vienna

Beer Description

H.B.M. Vienna was a short-lived amber lager produced by Heineken's Bierbrouwerij Maatschappij in the early years following the company's formation in 1873. Inspired directly by the Vienna Lager style pioneered by Anton Dreher of Schwechat, whose beer had captivated Gerard Adriaan Heineken at the 1869 Amsterdam exhibition and prompted his decisive switch to bottom fermentation, the beer was brewed using Vienna malt and noble hops. Historical records confirm a Vienna Bier appeared in the early HBM range but note it did not last long. Exact production years and discontinuation date remain unconfirmed. It represents one of the earliest and rarest expressions of Heineken's lager ambition.
