Vollenhoven Pilsener

Beer Description

Van Vollenhoven Pilsener was a premium bottom-fermented lager produced by De Gekroonde Valk, once the largest brewery in the Netherlands. While the brewery was world-renowned for its top-fermented Stout, this pilsner represented their attempt to modernize and compete with the rising popularity of Bavarian-style lagers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The brand's icon, "The Crowned Falcon" (De Gekroonde Valk), was so iconic that a bronze replica of the original brewery statue was commissioned for its modern revival. 1949 (Production under the original brewery ended; the brand is currently revived by Poesiat & Kater)
