Consolidation and Strategic Identity (1931-1935)

Year
1935
Location
Amsterdam

The early 1930s brought economic uncertainty, yet investment continued — carefully.

In Amsterdam, architect Ouëndag Sr. designed a new cellar building along the Stadhouderskade and Ferdinand Bolstraat. After revisions and financial caution, construction proceeded. On 30 September 1935 the new cellar complex entered operation.

The Amsterdam brewery had completed its structural transformation from a layered nineteenth-century site into a modern industrial organism.

Rotterdam, meanwhile, expanded infrastructure supporting distribution and experimentation. The Keilehaven branch was developed, and in 1932 a new office building was completed — combining industrial function with architectural presence. Investments during the period 1922–1933 amounted to several million guilders.

By 1935, both breweries had evolved:

  • Rotterdam became a mechanised production powerhouse.
  • Amsterdam became the administrative and structural centre of the enterprise.

Together, they formed a dual engine — industrial scale in Rotterdam, organisational consolidation in Amsterdam.
