Gerste 1

Beer Description

The industrial engine of the Heineken empire. Gerste 1 was the financial powerhouse that funded the construction of the Stadhouderskade laboratory and the discovery of the world-famous A-Yeast. During the economic crises of the late 19th century and the supply shortages of World War I, it remained the unbreakable anchor of the portfolio, ensuring the brewery's survival when others failed. It was the first beer to prove that pure-malt quality could be achieved at a massive industrial scale.

(Conceptual reconstruction of a Gerste I barrel, based on brewing practices of the late 19th century.)
